Speech!

I did an oratorical speech at school today!
It was about the Millenium Development Goals of the United Nations and I chose this topic:

It was nerve-wracking and a... thoroughly new experience for me.
Before my speech, I was really, really nervous because a) it was my first time and b) I'm not sure i memorized everything! I actually stopped and stumbled on some words on my speech... lol
And you know what???

I think I really improved a lot especially in terms of public speaking. (Yey! :P)
Before I can't even utter a single word in front of people, now I can speak in front of the school. From a shy and introverted person I think I was able to gain a bit of confidence in myself.
I'm soooooo happy! XD

Reduce Child Mortality

                 What were you like when you were five years old?I bet most of you would be pampered and cared for by your parents, with candies and chocolates in your pockets, and without a care in the world but to just play, be active, and be healthy.

               Now, imagine yourself: a five-year-old child, with face gaunt and full of misery, with bodies as thin as skeleton, and so weak from suffering numerous ailments.  Pitiful. Hard to imagine yourself that way. But you know,  it’s not just in your imagination. It is real. It exists. It happens.

               Do you know that more than 8 million children under the age of five die every year? Can you just imagine how many mothers have grieved for their children, how much innocent lives were lost, and how much future have disappeared?

               And that is why the United Nations (UN) has established the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which aims to resolve problems in the society and in the world. And one of the main issues that are addressed is the death rate of children especially those ages five and below.  Therefore the UN proposed MDG4 which strives to reduce child mortality all over the world. It started in the year 1990 and targets to diminish child mortality rate by two thirds by the year of 2015. It's already 2011, four more years to go. Do you think it’s possible? Can we really do it? No. Without everyone’s help and cooperation, we cannot. But if all of us unite, then together we can do it. 

               According to the WHO (World Health Organization), many children die from pneumonia, diarrhea, measles, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and other neonatal causes. These were mostly ailments due to bacteria, viruses, and other infections due to the lack of basic needs and a clean environment. Could you allow this to happen? Would you let them perish and steal away their opportunity to see this world? Give them a chance. Allow them to reach their fifth birthdays. Allow them to live. Give them the gift of life.

        And we can do something. Overall, some progress has been made towards the achievement of MDG4. The total number of under-5 deaths in the world has declined from 12.5 million in 1990 to 8.8 million in 2008. This is a satisfactory start. However, a lot more could be done. We can start by providing healthcare for newborns and their mothers, by expanding programs for affordable and free immunizations and vaccines, and by promoting infant and child feeding for the improvement of nutrition.  There is also a need for an easier access to basic services such as clean water and proper sanitation. There is a need to provide these needs, so let’s all listen. Are we listening? Or are we just simply hearing? We’re always expressing our reaction? Why don’t we take some action?

              

              Let us reduce child mortality. Because children are the key to a new progressive world. Children are the hope for a better future. A small infant can make a difference. This young child will be the country’s most competent businessman. This young child will be the world’s most prominent doctor, lawyer, and scientist. This young child will be our nation’s greatest leader.

             So, would you allow young children and infants to be robbed of their own existence? Of their own future?

                Don’t.    Because a child’s future is the world’s future.

Nineteen, Twenty-one

I was surfing the net and reading manga when I came across this Korean manhwa (that's what they call it..) entitled Nineteen, Twenty-One. It has a nice background story and good art and it's colored! unlike Japanese mangas. Hahaha! Anyway, I liked it because it's all about cat lovers and.... cats! :P

UP

Yesterday, we went to UP, the University of the Philippines!
(Jeanie, Bona, Roy, John, and I along with Ms. Cathy and Ms. Rezeile) :)


We attended the first Econ Leadership Summit!
Well, it was cool! And it's my first time to go to UP too. :D
It was a program that started from 8AM to 5:30PM! 
But there were a lot of videos, activities, and the oratorical contest.
They showed us videos that showed how we relate Economics to real life. 
(It was funny cause it was in Tagalog so Bona and I became translators for the sake of Rony, Jeanie, and John.) lol :P
There was also a looong speech about the MDGs or the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations and its current status and progress in the Philippines. It was.. um... enlightening?.. instructive?... b*r**g?  ahem.. ha ha ha! ,,

Well during her speech, we passed notes to each other talking about random stuff like:


Bona: "The girl behind us is practicing for the oratorical contest.."
Jeanie: "Is she good? What's her topic?"
Monica: "Wait.. (listens) I can't understand anything! She says... pshk.. fschii... "
Bona: Anyway, just do your best Jeanie!
Monica: You can do it!
Jeanie: I'll surely do my best...
M&B: Yeah! Go Jeanie... (words of encouragement and praises)
John: What the heck? What is that f****** girl at the front saying! I can't understand anything. s***! blah blah blah (you can pretty much figure out what he's saying ryt? lol)
Rony: So hungry! Gutom na ako!
Monica: Me too!
Bona: My stomach is rumbling...
Rony gets up and goes to cr. When he came back...
Rony: There's food outside! And drinks!
Monica: Yey! (Everyone's happy :P)

(Everyone claps loudly! YEY!!!)


Then we ate lunch! Everyone said the rice is not enough. T-T LOL
Anyway, Jeanie practiced and prepared for the oratorical contest....


Until it came...
And Jeanie picked 1 so she's the first speaker...
And it started.... 
I say she did great! She didn't stop or forget her lines and I think it was good! She looked confident enough and you know, I think standing there was no easy feat. 
(If I stood on that auditorium with that audience, I think I would have had a heart attack! LOL)


The 2nd speaker forgot his lines, so was the 4th(I think) and 6th! (Wow! We're looking goood!)
And some of them had FAKE BRITISH Accents! Seriously! (Hahahahaha!!!!)
On the first round, I think Jeanie was the best, but we had to go to a seminar while the second round continues so we weren't able to watch.... And T. Rezeile told us that some of them were really good like pros!
Anyway, even though Jeanie didn't win, I still think she did great! CONGRATS JEANIE! 
We're so proud of you girl! :)


But aside from that I really learned a lot especially from the speakers, they were good and sooo funny! I learned more about Public Speaking and Leadership. :D
Then there was this intermission number which Rony and John really loved! LOL
They liked the gay and the belly bottom girl so much! HAHAHA! (Just ask them ;P)


I realized the world is really small! You know I met my old classmates there! It was like about four years ago, since Grade 6! Wow! I feel oh-so-old! Ha ha! :P


And I'm also excited about college... like there are a lot of student orgs and activities and the campus is so big! Wow! But they say we were all gonna miss our high school days! So I guess I'll just enjoy being a highschooler huh? I've got two more years to go! XD


And it ended! Picture taking and certificate giving and a... commemorative CD???! XD


Then we went back to school! (Took us forever.....) 
And I reached home at 8pm and I was starving! Hahaha! :D


And that was what I did YESTERDAY! :)

At last!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally! THE SON OF NEPTUNE by RICK RIORDAN

You know the first time I rushed to the bookstore to buy this.... 

They said, "Oh, Son of Neptune? It was sold out just two days ago..." 

And I was like, "Two days? TWO DAYS??? Why couldn't I have gone TWO days earlier?!? Why??? Why!?!" 

I tried to find in other bookstores but there wasn't ANY!

So, I had to wait for almost a month to get a copy of this.. ..

T-T Huhuhu! 

But now, the long wait is over!  Wahahaha!!!!

I got my hands of my own copy of Rick Riordan's The Son of Neptune!!!!!

For those of you who don't know, it's the best series (after the Harry Potter series) from the best author (after  J.K. Rowling)! Well, I'm loyal! XD

And it's a must-read for everyone!

I highly recommend this to those who are interested at Greek mythology and those fans who couldn't get enough of the Percy Jackson series... here's a continuation! And it's every bit as good as the PJ series, I tell you! :)

Reactions after seeing the pictures....

Hahaha!

Well, normally I hate my brother because he's annoying  and he always, always, always teases me!

But I also feel lucky because I have a brother like him. I imagine my life would be boring and lonely if I don't have a brother to quarrel with. (Shh... Don't tell him I said that!) LOL

CSO :)

This October we also had our CSO or Creative Social Outreach program which is required for Grade 10-12 students. We have to complete a certain number of hours to be able to graduate.
So, it's my first CSO activity and I can say it was certainly fulfilling.

On a Saturday, we went to feed 100 children in a depressed area in Muntinlupa.
It was hot and tiring, but seeing the faces of the children smiling and eating happily, took away the exhaustion we had. I also realized how lucky I am and I learned to appreciate the things that I always took for granted.

We always want something better, something more; that we don't realize just how important are the things that we already have. We want a bigger house with three floors, a posh bedroom with an overlooking view of the city, but don't we realize that some people live in the streets and have to sleep on a cold hard cement every night? We throw our lunch today just because we think the taste sucks, but don't we see the children scavenging on trashes just to find leftovers? or begging for a coins? We always complain because our teachers give us a lot of homework, but some kids can't even read much less learn or go to school.

I realized all these things after the activity. I always complain when I don't get this or get that. I envy some people who have this thing or that thing. I don't appreciate the things I already have or sadly, sometimes even the people around me. :(

Now, I realized that my life is going pretty much great right now.
I feel such a lucky person. :)

I might not have everything in this world right now... but I guess, I already have Enough. :)

And for Grade 10A Group for all the HW reminders and the cussings(ahem) constructive criticisms for each other...(I knew you guys missed each other! LOL)

Ha ha ha! It was certainly a busy week! But it was really a good one! 

Staying at home all day, waking up late,  playing games and chatting with friends at Facebook! :) 

But nothing beats the real thing... excited to see my classmates faces(not all of them though.... Joke! XD ) when school resumes classes again!

UN! (PART II - Finally!)

At last! 

It's here!

The day we've been waiting for....

The day when our hard work will finally be rewarded.....

The day where we invested all our sweat and blood and tears and.......

Ok, enough of that... lol

It's the UN Day! Yey!

And what can I say? It was awesome! Really, reaaaaallllyyy FUN!

I can't believe how fast it came and went! After all those endless preparations, it was finished in just half of the day! But it will another unforgettable memory that will be engraved deep in my memory.

So, let's back up first shall we? Let me tell you what happened on that day itself....

I went to school early (I think)... I wasn't late anyway. lol

Then we fixed the unfinished tasks and did some last-minute decorations.

(All the classes were given an hour to finish it before the program starts)

Then we changed to our costumes! And everyone in our class were in costumes! From the rich Indian girls to Gandhi to the untouchable guys with their ripped clothes! :)

And you know what happened afterwards????

We just took pictures! Endless heaps of pictures! Ha ha ha!

(We stopped fixing our decors for that. LOL)

I'm so sad it's finally over... :( but I'm sooo relieved it's done and I'm reaaally Happy our class did well! :D
